Classic Smoked Brisket: Texas-Style Simplicity

Great barbecue doesn’t require dozens of ingredients.

Texas pitmasters have long understood that quality beef, proper seasoning, and controlled heat are the keys to exceptional brisket.

This recipe focuses on simplicity and technique, allowing the natural flavor of the beef to shine.

  • ½ cup coarse black pepper
  • ½ cup kosher salt
  • Yellow mustard (binder)

Shape brisket evenly.

Maintain consistent temperature.

Step 4: Wrap

Continue cooking until internal temperature reaches 203°F.

Step 5: Rest

Rest for at least 2 hours.

Step 6: Slice

Slice against the grain.

Serve immediately.

Pro Tips

Serving Suggestions

Serve with:

  • Smoked beans
  • Coleslaw
  • Pickles

Barbecue teaches patience better than almost anything else. A great brisket isn’t made in a few hours—it develops slowly through attention, consistency, and respect for the process.

"Barbecue is equal parts technique, patience, and passion."
